Andrew Twiss
Andrew often asks, of artists and himself, “what if we try…?” It’s this mantra that helps him find new music, new production techniques, and to help creators, well, create something greater than originally imagined.
He enrolled – “on a lark,” says Twiss – in the Technology and Music and Related Arts program while he was studying vocal performance at Oberlin College and Conservatory. Andrew was hooked. The program was an outgrowth of the classical electronic music wave which pioneered techniques like looping and manipulating found sound that are now common in modern music production.
Twiss turned an internship at one of Chicago’s major post-production houses into a job, quickly rising to be the top audio assistant. Breaking out as a freelancer, Twiss diversified his work into music, long form, and concert recording and mixing. He’s worked on everything from six second sound driven web ads to Paper Beast a dialog-less film driven only by music and sound design.
An Emmy winner for Audio Production on his mix for Chicago Voices Gala broadcast on PBS’s Great Performances, Andrew also handled the surround theatrical version of Allegiance, the Broadway musical by George Takei.
Andrew was nominated again for Judy Garland (2018), His vocal-centric approach caught the ear of Jazz and Gospel vocalist Dee Daniels, vocal group Under the Streetlamp, and the team at Fox’s Empire. Working closely with vocal producer Jeff Morrow, Andrew has been a key team member on vocal production and music mixing for every season of the music driven show.
And, he’s the fastest shortkeys master on any ProTools rig. With Andrew, there’s no ‘down-time.’
